Can the Windows XP Deskstop be made narrower?

The initial Desktop peak overflows the left and right edges. My monitor have adjustments that merely last while its on and must be readjusted every time it is turned on.

Most modern monitors hold a memory feature, which will hold on to the settings for you. See if you can find it. Or you can try and make the change from the control panel of your video card. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for both the video card and the monitor.
