Thanks for your answer/comment.

Microsoft windows doesn't resembling to play nice with other operating systems, so instead of updating the master boot text when installed, it replaces it. Your Kubuntu is still there, you only don't have access to it.

Restoring the MBR is effortless, but requires some knowledge of your installation. You requirement to know which partition is root and which is swap, and home if you hold a separate one.

Here's how to restore it. Just pop in the Kubuntu disc and restart, when KDE loads, just start the commonplace install operation.

Go with it as a rule, don't worry zilch will be changed. When you reach the Disk Partition quantity, select manual partitioning and select the appropriate partition, and make sure to uncheck format. Again, do not format them!

Click yes to apply change, and it will give you an error, slight all the errors and verbs until you reach the Kubuntu installation menu, this time select Install Grub and verbs with that. When successfully done, restart and everything should be fixed.
the problem more or less vista is depends on what kind of vista u get: which upgrade and you have to hang around for more updates because vistya just come out noe
Windows overwrites the boot partition & replaces it beside its own boot loader, with 2k i know you could reinstall grub but not so sure near xp
