I hold an Intel D865PERL desktop board, Intel 865PE chipset, and a mPGA478 socket currently running a Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz processor with 1.5 GB of DDR RAM . I be wondering what the best processor I could upgrade to without shifting anything but the old processor, and give or take a few how much it would cost. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
Best computer processor upgrade possible?
Unfortunately, your desktop board is a Socket 478, which mechanism you are limited to a Pentium 4 or Celeron processor. Since Celerons are lousy, the with the sole purpose thing you can really do is attain a slightly faster Pentium 4. (They make 3.0 or 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 processors for Socket 478.) You won't even really spy the extra .2 or .4 GHz.
Intel phased out the Socket 478 processors with the launch of the LGA775 socket. If you upgrade your motherboard as very well, you have a exotic line of option (including the Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo). However, you might have to upgrade your RAM as very well, which leads to such an expensive upgrade that you might want to a short time ago consider a new computer.
intel core 2 duo is $ 239.00 @ ebay.com
