Computer buyers of 4 years ago?

When I bought my Compaq 4 years ago it didn't come near an XP CD but you basically turned it on and began installation. Its far too behind now to bring back one but is that odd?

Computer buyers of 4 years ago?

No in fact its not that uncommon for a unusual computer to not have a stand alone operating system cd, which keep the buyer from being competent to install the operating system on a new computer due to the restore software that does come beside your computer is system proprietary.
u should hav a recovery cd come with ur notebook.if not u hav to find it within ur hard disc for creation of taking back disc.good luck.
If you intend to hold the computer,do yourself a favor and buy you an OEM copy of XP. Tigerdirect among others has it for $139.

Personally, i wouldn't trust a Compaq as a doorstop.
It have an image of the installation on another divider.
That's typical for Compaq and HP. They stored the install files on a small partition on the sturdy drive. If the drive failed or a topical drive was installed it be a real anguish to get it working again.
This is a standard oem install method, a underhand partition on the disk carry the whole setup. If your disk ever fail the manufacturer will usually supply a cd to create the same fence, often for the cost of the cd medium.
a few years back, the computer companies figure it was cheaper to put your rescue disc's on a separate partition of your easier said than done drive. when you boot up, look for something likesystem restore hit f11.
