i hold a dell l933r that only supports a max of 512 mb of strike. can upgrading th bios let me put more run into in it?

Maybe? But only up to a stratum that the OS supports. It is easier done with retail motherboards. I'm not too sure w/ proprietary boards. The OEMs seem to be to make upgrades so confrontational because they actually prefer that you simply buy a new PC from them.
Duh?? upgrading bios make the bios updated not the ram. RAM is a piece of a computer, it's approaching a long in elevation and thin near rectangular chip and colored green.

If your board currently supports 512MB near could logically be a <software> upgrade to let the system use its full dimensions in those slots. It can be better explained approaching a bottle neck fact.
